Data Sharing Practices
Wastewater data is submitted daily to CDC’s National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS).
Through CDC NWSS, health departments, including NYSDOH, submit wastewater data and develop capacity to lead surveillance efforts in their communities. Community wastewater data from testing sites across the country are publicly available on CDC's COVID Data Tracker .
Dataset
This dataset provides detailed wastewater data collected from participating treatment plants across the state, offering insights into sample analysis details.
GitHub
The NYS Wastewater Surveillance GitHub facilitates code sharing and collaboration with other health departments and organizations engaged in wastewater surveillance initiatives.
Reports
Participating wastewater treatment plants and local health departments receive weekly memos with information on their current SARS-CoV-2 transmission levels and trends. This information provides them with a greater understanding of COVID-19 community-level risk. The weekly memos also include genetic sequencing data as well as forecasts of COVID-19 hospitalizations.
Weekly Wastewater Surveillance Report
The weekly wastewater surveillance reports provide insights into SARS-CoV-2 detection levels, regional and statewide trends over time (including New York City), and the percentage of the population covered by wastewater surveillance efforts.
Poliovirus Wastewater Surveillance Report
Published weekly, this report highlights poliovirus detections in wastewater across selected counties, offering timely insights into surveillance efforts.
