Data Sharing

Wastewater data is submitted daily to the Center for Environmental Health, NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) and CDC’s National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS).

Through CDC NWSS, health departments, including NYSDOH, submit testing data and develop capacity to lead surveillance efforts in their communities. Community wastewater data from testing sites across the country are publicly available on CDC's COVID Data Tracker .

Our data is also made publicly available on the Network’s dashboard as well as NYSDOH’s website. In addition, wastewater surveillance reports are published weekly here.

Data Sharing Practices.

Participating wastewater treatment plants and local health departments receive weekly memos with information on their current SARS-CoV-2 transmission levels and trends. This information provides them with a greater understanding of COVID-19 community-level risk. The weekly memos now include genetic sequencing data as well as forecasts of COVID-19 hospitalizations.

More information on wastewater data for poliovirus, including detailed reports, can be found here.
